LabelDuring the 1920s, Earl Horter assembled a magnificent collection of modern, African, and Native American art, which he shared with a wide circle of Philadelphia artists and art collectors. Through this collection, which centered on an astounding group of Cubist paintings by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, Horter played an important role in introducing modern art to Philadelphia. In Wissahickon Creek, Horter appears to have been himself influenced by the Cubist works in his collection. |
